Redman Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

Redman
Cabernet Sauvignon
$17 (1996)
Coonwarra

Probably one of the first bottles i bought when I started collecting, i was afraid that i had hung onto it for too long - from what I understood most lower range cabernet sauvignons, as a rule of thumb can be happily cellared for 8 years. I waited 13 years. Its easy for most wine collectors to open something they've had for X amount of years because they usually buy by the case. Me, a student could only afford one bottle per month to squirrel away for an important occasion, of which was always hard to find. Plus important occassions can easily be soured by a corked bottle so...i was always reticent to bring my cellared wines out.

But for Valentines day i ripped this one out. It was decanted for a bit, to let it breath and to help filter out the cork the crumbled in during the opening (i need to invest in one of those specky gas openers). It held up well, it probably had at least another 3 years in the bottle but still it was smooth and deep wine, with a strong flavours. It had berry flavours that hit pleasantly different parts of the tongue but quietly. Not an exciting wine nor was it classy smooth but still drinkable and enjoyable.

3/5
