Black Chook
Shiraz, Viognior 2005
$17
McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek
This was strongly recommended by the shop assistant at Dan Murphy's, well maybe not strongly but i did give him pretty strict criteria for his recommendation; Shiraz/Viognier, less than $25 and must be SA. He pointed out this and a Tim Adams.
At home, and in my glass this was not as exciting as the other shiraz viogniors I've been having. It wasn't as rich and deep as i expected, it was surprisingly mellow. And whilst it wasn't what i expected it was still OK, nothing to rave about and maybe the least interesting S/V I've tried but maybe that's a good thing. It was a relaxed smooth wine, with the viognier just barely peeking through, but as a whole it sat nicely in the mouth, with the high alcohol giving it a nice hum. Its an ok wine but i think i could get the same from a cab sav but for the price its reasonable.
